Directx 10 exclusive for vista?

i hate windows vista with that all too friendly UI , i was hoping to install windows xp 64 on my new pc because it recognizes my full 4 gb ram , but will directx 10 work on xp? if not is there a version of vista that is more ... "professional" with less questions and ... i even hate the new media player the old one actually required u to know things to use it :P
