What good is the Bible for?

I used to go to church everyday but found myself to hate because my mom made me go with her rather than me get an opinion of whether I even wanted to believe in a myth of a book. I believe the bible is really only good for teaching kids about morals and ethics, and I just can't seem to understand that the bile is God's word. That has got to be the bull because he didn't write the book himself people did and he "supposedly" communicated to them with their dreams back when people had no idea what was going on around them. Like if a volcano blew it was a sign from god saying "I hate you, obey me or die", I mean c'mon. Biology and the sciences have proved time and time again why things happen. So what good does the bible really serve?
