Colchicine vs allopurinol for gout?

My doc put me on colchicine daily for my gout and he told me that he would rather me have the squirts from colchicine than to have bone marrow loss from allopurinol. I need advice from someone who has been on gout meds for a long time cuz i still have problems with gout for 3 years now and have never used allopurinol.
